How can they just allow this

I just received an email saying someone had sent me a post card and to click the link to see the card. Me No Stupid! So I thought OK I will check out the domain on Google, guess what others have had the same note, apparently it goes off to a .exe file on the site (no I didnt bother to check it out someone else did) So I then did a whois against the domain using the HKDNR service (they look after the .hk domains). Here is the information logged by the owner of the domain.

You have to see this!

Who said RPG was dead and all RPG programmers were old out of date and should get a life! (was that me?) No really! Well all the power to this guy, IBM should use this to show its not just old gits like me that love the i5!!!

Email is back!

I have hands again, email came back overnight so thanks spammers I got your messages. Not that I am ever likely to buy any of your products, but its nice to know you are still thinking of me…

Today is devoted to testing my product on the IBM VLP systems, if you have not heard of the program here is a linkIBM Virtual loaner Program They kindly provide you with systems to do your development and testing on at no charge. I have started to develop a recovery process for the audit programs which will eventually allow you to fix up a file which fails on normal replication because of data errors. Today is all about testing the audit programs and then onto developing a fix for corrupted data. Our RAP/400 program is now gaining popularity and we are seeing a lot of traffic through the site checking out the product and the white paper on the technology Remote Journalling and Data Recovery which explains the original technology we developed with IBM assistance.

For those of you interested in the recent messages coming from the Vision management team about the future of the products they now own check out the latest from ITJungle.
One question I have, if the future is going to be all about hardware replication technology why buy three software solutions? I also noted with interest the mention of Glenn Van Benschoten who was let go from Lakeview sometime ago by the then owner Bill Merchantz. That was a real pity as Glenn is one of those people who doesn’t think inside the box and has a view of the future which others seem to ignore! Glenn is now working with SPSS (Show Case developers) trying to help them come up with a solid i5 strategy for that box. Good luck Glenn…

OK so enough of the chat on with the testing!

I have no hands!

OK at first it was quite nice to get no spam, but after being without email for the whole day its like someone has cut my hands off! I started to develop a new C tutorial about using the encryption API’s I found but even that didnt fix me up! I need the email! Give me the email! I am going scatty with the lonelyness of sitting here and feel like I am getting the withdrawal symptoms of a junkie! Anyhow have to go before I get truly messed up.. Keep emailing you spammers I am not getting it!

I am not here

If anyone is wondering why I am not responding to their emails, its because the ISP has moved to another backbone supplier and has put in some DNS changes which don’t appear to have filtered out to the rest of the net yet.

On the Plus side at least I am not getting all that spam! But I know its sitting out there just waiting to come in!

New Encryption API’s

I wrote a process to encrypt data as part of our FTP Client product because I needed to store the password associated with a remote system. I was in the process of changing the code to allow me to create an MD5 checksum for data comparison when I found a couple of new API’s. After a bit of investigation and some challenges with documentation I managed to get the API’s to work and now have a process where I can check the data at record level between two files on separate systems using the MD5 checksum created using the API. I will be retro fitting the use of the APi’s into my FTP Client as they are a lot easier to support than the code I had to write.. Check out the API QC3CALHA if you are interested. There are a lot more security API’s which will make security programming easier on the i5!

Watch API’s

I have been developing code which uses the QSCSWCH and QSCEWCH API’s and had a number of issues which IBM is developing fixes for. If you have been using these API’s you should make sure install all of the PTF’s as there are a number of issues. In fact I recently installed a PTF (SI27271) which required the removal of a previous PTF SI27350, I had some new issues occur which after reporting to IBM required the installation of PTF SI27350, yes the same one! Only IBM had to fix the fact that SI27271 would not work with it. IBM has the new PTF SI27350 in test and it should be available soon!

I need feedback

I keep writing entries in the blog in the hope that people feel the need to comment on the validity of the content or give me ideas on where they would like to see it go! As I get little to no comment its hard to really know if the content is hitting the right note or if its just a waste of time? I know it gets read quite a bit because the logs show lots of hits but not much comment. Make me feel wanted write some comments!
